Goin Home

Looks like day 10 will bring us home after all. The plan was to cut it a day short and skip the weather, but mother nature had other plans for us, sticking us in Guymon for two nights instead of one.

At least the flickr sets are more or less updated. Check out the images on the right.

Once we’re back, I’ll go back and start writing things up a bit more detailed. See ya at home!!

Yawn

Stuck in the hotel today and again tonight because of crummy OK weather. So this is pretty much how today is going. Had enough of driving in snow after yesterday’s adventure at La Veta Pass. Hopefully day 10 goes a bit better!!

Dinner in Guymon OK

We are in Guymon Ok. The front desk recommended a local restaurant, Naifeh’s. The food and atmosphere were both great. Wonderful service. If we ever make it back to Guymon, we will definitely go back!

Day 7 / Day 8… Comparison

Just a quick comparison between yesterday morning and tonight.  We went from the bottom of the Arizona desert and Monument Valley, through some really bizarre desert/rock stuff in Utah, straight up into the mountains and Mesa Verde, even higher up the mountains to our stop.

Then we leave for the morning, and a bit later, get stuck in a rather nasty storm/blizzard that wasn’t supposed to hit the area til later that afternoon.  So when we start seeing signs like “Chains required for commercial vehicles at La Veta Pass” we knew we were in trouble….  Just check out the bottom picture.  I’ll work on getting more of the photos up to flickr before/after dinner.  Sometime tonight anyway…..

Flickr Updates, Getting Caught Up

Finally!  We’re in Alamosa, CO, and finally have some decent bandwidth.  So it looks like I’m getting caught up on uploading photos.  At least from my camera anyway! :)

So here’s the deal:  Day 4, Day 5, and Day 6 are getting uploaded to the Flickr Collection.  There’s a lot of photos there, and a bunch of duplicates in the GC where I was messing with my camera settings, so you can likely ignore a lot of them….  But the list includes Petroglyph National Monument, Painted Desert/Petrified Forest National Park, “Standin’ on the Corner” Park in Winslow AZ, Grand Canyon National Park, and Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park.   That should get me caught up through PM on 3/17 anyway.  Only a day behind now!  Still have to upload the other camera’s pics, too!

Looks to be a cold morning at ~15 deg. or so, and we’ll be able to take our time getting to Guymon, OK….  stay tuned.

Wrapping up in the Valley

Winding it down here at Monument Valley. Took the drive out around and got a lot of photos. One of these days I might be able to upload them. Lol.

From here it’s Mesa Verde Np in CO, but we have to drive through part of UT first.

Day 6… Monument Valley

Well after a long morning taking in Grand Canyon, and a couple hours drive through the strangest nothing in northern AZ….

We’re here eating dinner in the shadow (literally) of Monument Valley. So far I’m impressed. And we have bandwidth!!!! So I’ll be updating the flickr set later… EDIT:  Apparently much later.  While there is decent downstream bandwidth in the lobby of this place, upstream is useless….  It Figures(tm).

So I’m three days behind on photos now. Awesome.

The only next problem is that the Navajo nation is _a dry county_. Almost perfect!!

Sunrise At GC

Just got back in from some sunrise shooting. Tripod ftw. Some AM views in the park and then it’s off to Monument Valley.
